FAQs
- How can I lower the cost of my
utility bill?
Make sure your home is well insulated and ventilated. You can do this by
adding additional insulation to your attic, adding weather stripping to
your doors and windows, caulking cracks and taping ducts.
Purchasing an energy efficient air conditioning unit may also drastically
cut your monthly energy costs. Seasonal checkups and monthly filter
changes will help keep your unit in tip-top shape, also helping reduce
monthly utility costs.
- What is a SEER number?
Central air conditioners are labeled with a SEER (Seasonal Energy
Efficiency Ratio) number. The higher the SEER number the more efficient
the unit. Although 10.0 is suitable for most locations, South Texas is a
very hot and humid climate, and a higher SEER value could save you money.
- What is a R-value?
R-value is the capacity of an insulating material to resist heat flow.
The higher the R-value, the better the insulator.
- Where is the best place to locate my
thermostat?
The thermostat must be mounted where the temperature of the surrounding
air is average for the entire space being heated or cooled-generally on an
inside wall away from drafts.
- How can I calculate the annual
operating cost for my air conditioning unit?
Many variables factor into the answer of this question such as; how humid
your climate is, how hot your climate is, how old your unit is, and how
well ventilated your home is.
However, there is a formula to give you a ballpark figure of your annual
operating cost.
